The Friendships are Experimental Pop from Los Angeles, CA
Formed in 2011 at the iconic Sandstone complex in Austin, TX, their early cuts were crude and kinda catchy, and some people even liked it, but because they broke so many rules, the Establishment forced them to split up. Seth chose New York and Ryan went to Los Angeles, which are really, really, really really not close to each other at all.
While in coastal exile, the group crafted two EPs, “Taco Plaza EP” and “The Bushwick Tapes,” both of which went absolutely nowhere, because they never put them out.
Then in 2018, Seth moved West. Suddenly, our two heroes found themselves in a tiny closet recording studio in East Hollywood, translating their respective pathologies into short bursts of surrealist nostalgia-pop. In no time, they’d broken an entire tranche of new rules. The time was ripe to break the Ultimate Rule:
Don’t make an album called Massive Poetry.
You would think this rule was extremely easy to break except…no one in the history of the world had ever broken it. Ever.
Until now. Teaming up with producer and legendary rule-breaker Jason Caldarera, the Friendships have slain one of the Great Dragons of History.
Massive Poetry is here.
WHAT IS MASSIVE POETRY?
Massive Poetry is the full-length debut album from The Friendships, written and recorded over the course of two years but honestly way more than that.
It’s the sound of paranoia, delusion and loneliness coming together and having the time of their lives in the cool desert night.
Mixed and produced by Jason Caldarera
